Churro Waffles

Churro Waffles

A spin on Churros as you know it - this recipe uses a waffle iron instead of a deep fryer for a healthier, but just as tasty treat.

Makes about 3 servings  |  difficulty level: easy

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more for topping
  • 1 tablespoon sugar, plus more for topping
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, plus more for topping
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  1. In a small saucepan, bring butter, sugar, salt, water, and cinnamon to a simmer over medium-high heat.
  2. Once the butter has melted and sugar and salt have dissolved, lower heat to medium-low and add flour and begin stirring rapidly. Continue to stir for about a minute more - the thick batter will form rapidly.
  3. Remove from heat and allow mixture to stand for 5 minutes. Then, add the eggs one at a time until fully combined.
  4. Preheat your waffle maker. While the iron is heating up, combine about 3 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon and set aside in a dish. Next, melt about 3 tablespoons butter in a small bowl and set aside.
  5. Add about 1/4 cup batter (depending on the size of your waffle iron) to the waffle iron and close the lid for about 5-8 minutes or until churros are golden brown.
  6. Remove from iron and brush sides with the melted butter and then roll in the cinnamon sugar topping. Repeat with remaining batter.

Notes:

Serve with chocolate sauce for dipping.
